I’m Misaki. My family consists of three people, my husband Tomoya, and our son Atsuto (a first grade elementary school student). My in-laws’ house isn’t too far away, so we used to gather there whenever there was an event. To be honest, since I got married, there were times when I thought it was a hassle to gather at my in-laws’ house, but I wanted to get along with my husband’s family, so I tried to interact with them as much as I could. Today was my grandmother-in-law’s birthday, or as my husband Tomoya sees it, my grandmother. My grandmother-in-law has gotten quite old, but she seems to look forward to being celebrated by her family every year.

I’ve always kept a certain distance from my in-laws, but I’ve often been called upon to help out at events. Events aren’t that frequent, and I’ve managed to convince myself that I should improve my relationship with them, but if I’m included as a member of the “grandmother-in-law’s care support group,” things change. Is this something I have to do as well…? I’ll ask my husband about it.
