I (Yuka) am a full-time housewife in my second year of marriage. I am currently seven months pregnant and expecting my first child. My husband is older than me and is the eldest brother. I am an only child. A few years before he married me, he built a house on his mother-in-law’s land and lived there by himself. I now live in that house with my husband, and we have a “mother-in-law room” in our house.
Even when I’m not there, she comes in without permission and relaxes on the sofa in the living room. My mother-in-law has had a key to our house since before we were married, so she can come and go as she pleases. I’m starting to get tired of our house being used as a second home for my mother-in-law.
…But this is a house that my husband built on my mother-in-law’s land. I wonder alone if this unsettling feeling is the result of me being selfish.
