I’m Shigeru, and I live with my wife, Mitsuki, our eldest daughter, Yuna (7th grade), and our eldest son, Itsuki (4th grade). Because my job was busy and unpredictable, we split the responsibilities when our daughter was born—I would earn the income, and Mitsuki would take care of the home and kids. The children grew up healthy and strong, and I was nothing but grateful to her. …Or at least, I was supposed to be. But as Mitsuki grew bigger and bigger with each passing year, I felt myself drifting further and further away from her. I tried suggesting she exercise many times, but nothing ever sank in. That’s when I realized: Mitsuki didn’t even see a reason to lose weight in the first place…

Maybe the way I brought it up was wrong.
Maybe I was beating around the bush instead of just saying “I want you to lose weight,” so it didn’t get through to her.
That’s why I tried telling her, “I like you better when you’re thin.”
But Mitsuki just brushed it off.
Ah… To her, I’m simply not someone worth putting in the effort to lose weight for anymore.
That hit me harder than anything else.
I kept bottling it up after that, but I finally reached my breaking point.
I ended up laying all my true feelings out on the table.
