I (Mako) am currently on parental leave. I am raising my 2-year-old daughter Mio. Since parental leave can be taken for a maximum of 3 years, I took a longer leave and am enjoying the time I have with my child. My parents-in-law live about 30 minutes away by foot, and although I don’t do it often, I try to visit them to say seasonal greetings. My sister-in-law also lives about the same distance away, and we only see each other when I visit my parents-in-law’s house, so we have been living with a moderate distance between us. Since our children are close in age to each other, when we meet, we mainly talk about child-rearing. If we get too close, we may start to see each other’s weaknesses, which could affect our future relationship. The current distance between us is just right. Or so I thought. But then something happened that broke that relationship.
I had never had a deep conversation with my sister-in-law, so I didn’t know much about her personality. However, it seems that her husband, Asahi, is not very respectful of her. But that doesn’t matter to me.
This may seem cold, but I believe that family relationships are meant to last a long time. I also wanted to maintain a reasonable distance from my sister-in-law, without causing any trouble.
However, this time she seemed to be in a difficult situation, so I decided to take care of Kota. However, no matter how long I waited, my sister-in-law never returned from the educational consultation, which was supposed to take “only about an hour.”
