I live with my husband; both sons have their own families. We love when Yosuke visits—his wife Chie is cheerful and thoughtful, and I enjoy cooking with her. In contrast, Kota’s wife Mayu is unfriendly and inconsiderate, especially at family dinners.

Cooking and chatting with my daughters-in-law was always a dream of mine, so I was truly grateful for Chie. Even with a small child, she helped me so well. Mayu, on the other hand, may be good at work, but she lacks everything else. If Chie’s helping, she should too. Saying “Shall I help?” feels arrogant—
She should just say, “Let me help.” If you don’t work, you don’t eat. I wish she’d understand that.
