I’m Suzuko. After my father-in-law passed away, my mother-in-law moved in with us. But she completely ignored the rules we set, and I got so fed up that I decided to leave the house myself. I often looked at messages from my sons, wondering if they were doing okay. Then one day, they showed up at my apartment looking troubled — apparently, my mother-in-law had stopped doing any housework at all. Furious, I invited my sons in and decided it was time to have a talk with my husband.

No matter how much I talked, my husband just looked flustered and lost. Then my mother-in-law started crying, begging him, “Don’t abandon me.” Tired of seeing the same old scene play out, I finally gave my husband an ultimatum: choose — your wife and kids, or your mother. I knew it wasn’t something he could answer right away, but I wanted to hear his true feelings.
