My name is Akane (32). I live with my husband Takumi (33) and our third-grade son. Takumi’s parents passed away before we got married, and for the past few years we’ve been living in his family home. Before our son was born, Takumi’s younger sister, Maki (26), lived with us too. A few years ago she got a boyfriend and moved out, settling into her own place about a ten-minute walk away. But since she’s close with her brother—and with me as well—Maki comes by our house almost every day. Still, there’s one thing about her that’s been a bit of a problem…

I’m very much a “stock-up” kind of person when it comes to daily necessities. I really hate last-minute shopping, so I try to keep it to an absolute minimum. Heavy items get delivered and stored in our pantry.
As for groceries, I usually plan meals for about five days, then use whatever’s left for the remaining two. So when something suddenly disappears from the fridge, it throws everything off—I can’t make what I’d planned. That said, my husband seems to think it’s fine to let Maki help herself, and he’s never complained about it.
