I’m Taro. Right after getting married, I had an affair. When my wife, Chie, found out, she was pregnant. Even then, she used to make dinner every single day and wait for me to come home. I deeply regret how much my betrayal hurt her. “I can’t cook for you anymore”—those were her words, and it’s been ten years since I last ate a meal at home. Our son, Daiki, is growing up now and has started asking, “Daddy, why don’t you eat with us?” One day, Chie told me we needed to talk, and we finally sat down to discuss our future.

“Family” comes in all shapes and sizes. There are seasons when things just don’t work, and others when everything stays on track. Because of my past affair, my family had to take a massive detour. But as long as we both want to stay a family, I’ll never stop looking for the best way forward for Chie and our son. I have to carry the weight of my mistakes, but even so, I want us to be able to laugh together again.
