I’m Sakura, and I live with my husband and our college-student daughter, Mao. Due to a congenital condition, Mao is unable to have children. My husband and I waited until she was older before telling her. Eventually, Mao got a boyfriend—Tatsuki, who’s in his second year of working. Things were going smoothly, but when Mao shared her condition with him, he dumped her, saying, “Marriage is off the table.” Yet, Tatsuki kept reaching out to her afterward, just like before. Apparently, in his mind, “marriage is off the table, but we’re still dating”…?

I couldn’t forgive Tatsuki for that. Why wouldn’t he break up with Mao if he’s just going to marry someone else eventually?
I couldn’t help but feel like Mao was being treated as a girl of convenience. However, my sister chewed me out, saying that no matter what he thinks, what matters is how Mao feels and what she decides. Mao is a college student now. She will make her own choices regarding love, her future, and everything she carries with her.
All I can do is watch over her… But before that, I want to make sure I at least share my own feelings with Mao.
