I live with my husband, Kazuma, and our three kids. Kazuma is the middle of three siblings—his older brother Kosuke and his younger sister Sanae. I’ve never gotten along with Kosuke and his overbearing wife, and after years of dealing with their behavior, I decided I wanted nothing to do with them.
One day, we planned a trip to a traditional inn with just his parents. But then my father-in-law went ahead and invited the other siblings without asking. Kosuke immediately started pressuring us in that intimidating way he always does, and my mother-in-law and even my husband said the usual: “Everything will go smoothly if you just put up with it.” Seriously…?

Of course I didn’t want Kosuke and his wife tagging along. But what really infuriated me was how no one ever expects him to compromise—yet they tell me to “just deal with it” without a second thought. It showed exactly how little they think of me, whether they realize it or not. Watching my husband and mother-in-law prioritize Kosuke no matter what made me lose faith in both of them.
And the whole thing was our idea to begin with. If anyone should compromise, it’s his brother and his wife. If my opinion doesn’t matter to them, then fine—the trip is off. But Kazuma kept insisting, “Skipping that inn isn’t an option!” and refused to accept it.
