I live with my husband, Kazuma, and our three kids. He’s the middle of three siblings—his older brother, Kosuke, and his younger sister, Sanae. One day we decided to invite his parents on an overnight trip to a nice inn. Then out of nowhere, my father-in-law announced he’d already invited the other siblings too. The problem is, I can’t stand my domineering brother-in-law and his wife, and I’ve gone out of my way to avoid them for years.
When my husband tried to convince me that “everything will be fine as long as you just put up with it,” I was completely done. I told him I wanted to cancel… but then things took a turn.

I never imagined my husband would be this unwilling to understand. My friend had passed along a reservation to an amazing inn, and I know it wasn’t easy for him to give that up. But if that’s the case, then he should be doing something about his brother and sister-in-law—not begging me to be the only one who compromises. Kosuke would never budge, and my father-in-law is convinced we’ll all be going together. Neither my mother-in-law nor my husband has the strength to push back against him.
I hated the idea of giving up the reservation, but in the end, I decided to cancel the trip, even though it broke my heart.
