I’m Ayumi, and I live with my husband, Kazuma, and our three kids. Kazuma is the middle of three siblings—his older brother, Kosuke, and his younger sister, Sanae.
A few days ago, a friend passed me her reservation for a really popular inn, so I invited my in-laws for a little getaway. That’s when my father-in-law went ahead and invited the other siblings without asking. The thing is, I can’t stand my overbearing brother- and sister-in-law. I’ve avoided them for years. And I was exhausted from always being the only one expected to “just put up with it,” both by my husband and my mother-in-law. So we eventually leaned toward canceling the whole trip…
Then Kosuke called and ordered us to “swap rooms.” It took me a moment to even process what he meant. Basically, he wanted to push our family of five out to a hotel so his family of four could stay at the inn with my in-laws. This was a reservation my friend kindly gave me… and he thought this was okay? What on earth was he thinking?
And even if we refused, he’d just bully his way through like he always does. We had finally sorted everything out and I’d just started to breathe again… I was so blindsided I couldn’t even think straight.
