I live with my husband, Kazuma, and our three kids. He’s the middle of three siblings, with an older brother and a younger sister. I’ve always gone out of my way to avoid his overbearing brother, Kousuke, and Kousuke’s wife, Rie—they’re impossible to deal with.
Still, when I managed to get a reservation at a famous inn and decided to invite my in-laws, my father-in-law went ahead and invited the other siblings too. We eventually agreed that Kousuke’s family would stay at a different hotel and only join us for dinner… but then Kousuke suddenly demanded, “Switch rooms with us.”
Just when I thought everything was finally settled, Kousuke stuck his nose in again. And my in-laws just nodded along, acting like he was the one in charge. Meanwhile, my husband just kept glancing at me, panicking and not saying a word. What was the point of all those “family discussions” we had up until now?
Then my in-laws naturally turned to me and asked me to understand their side. That was the last straw. I snapped. I’d kept my distance all this time to avoid drama, but I’m done. I have plenty to say, and this time I’m saying all of it. If this leads to cutting ties, so be it.
