I felt something was off about my mother-in-law, who would ignore my requests, which were made with care to avoid causing offense, but would readily comply with my husband’s requests.
I’ve never asked my mother-in-law to teach me anything, but it bothers me that she always looks down on me and says she is “teaching” me things.
Even if it’s unconscious, maybe she thinks of me as a junior in housework and childcare, rather than as family. Either way, it doesn’t look like my mother-in-law is going to change. When I say no to something, I’ll try to be “gentle” on my husband’s part and “clear” on my part.
