I’m Kaori (46). My husband Yuichi (46) was asked by his parents, who are ballroom dance instructors, to eventually take over their studio. After getting back into ballroom dancing for the first time in 25 years, he started spending every weekend staying overnight at the studio. But couldn’t he easily come home if he just finished practice before the last train or took a cab? On top of that, I found out those late-night practice sessions were with his ex-girlfriend Suzuka, who used to be his dance partner.
It seems Suzuka kept taking lessons at the studio as a hobby even after my husband quit dancing. Although she took breaks from competing for marriage and childbirth, she’s had a long relationship with my in-laws’ studio. Since she had just split up with her partner recently, she decided to pair up with my husband now that he’s back in the game.
I know he’s practicing hard to make up for a 25-year gap, and I understand his pure intention of wanting to take over the studio his parents built and cared for. So despite my uneasiness, I couldn’t bring myself to say anything more.
