I’m Hozumi. I live with my husband, Kyota, and our first-grade son, Ruki. Since we both work full-time, our weekends are precious time off. Lately, though, my sister-in-law Maya has been coming over once a month and overstaying her welcome until 11 p.m. Kyota doesn’t take it seriously and has no idea how frustrating it is for me to have our routine thrown off. To give him a taste of his own medicine, I asked my younger brother Minato to drop by. He proceeded to totally throw off Kyota’s day.
After putting Ruki to bed at 9 p.m., I launched phase two of my plan. Minato had brought up wanting life advice, so I offered them drinks, telling them to relax and enjoy a few.
Minato kept showering him with compliments, leaving Kyota completely unable to say he wanted to go to sleep.
Maybe now Kyota understands how I feel when Maya overstays her welcome. When Minato finally left at 11 p.m. after saying, “See you next month!”, Kyota looked totally unnerved. Seeing him squeeze out that fake smile almost made me burst out laughing.
