This happened a few years ago. I’m Megumi Nishida. My father-in-law suddenly fell ill, and after several months of treatment, he passed away. My mother-in-law had devoted herself to him for so many years, and I truly wanted her to finally slow down and rest.
But my husband, Atsushi, kept saying he wanted to “be there for his mom,” and before I knew it, he started going to see her pretty often.

I had to bite back the urge to shout, “This is so exhausting!” out loud. I know Atsushi genuinely cares about his mother—that much is clear—but everything he’s doing feels a bit off, like it’s all missing the mark somehow. Still, the bond between a parent and child is something only they can truly understand. I figured it wasn’t my place to push too hard or say too much. So for now, I decided to stay quiet and let Atsushi handle his visits to his parents’ house in his own way.
