A few years ago, this happened. My name is Megumi Nishida. After my father-in-law passed away, my husband Atsushi kept stopping by his mom’s place every single day, saying, “She must be lonely.” Apparently, he’d even decided on his own that we should move in together—but to my mother-in-law, it was more trouble than help.

Since then, she’s found new hobbies and started enjoying her time, spending her days at her own pace. We drop by now and then, keeping a comfortable distance that doesn’t stress either side. When we do visit, Atsushi no longer relies on his mom for everything like he used to. That might be because I’m always watching him—just a little (laughs).
She’s spent her whole life pushing forward and doing her best. From here on out, I really want her to enjoy her time—her own time—to the fullest.
