I’m Nanami. I live with my husband, Tatsuya, and our third-grade son, Riku. My son is more precious to me than anything in the world. I’ve given everything I have to raise him right, so he can grow into a decent adult. But recently, Riku stopped going to school. It’s probably emotional. Right now, I’m doing everything I can so he’ll be ready to return whenever he’s able. During that time, at Riku’s request, I started leaving him with my in-laws three days a week.
But the truth was, he wasn’t staying with them at all. He was going to my sister-in-law Haruna’s house—and playing video games I had repeatedly said were absolutely not okay. I couldn’t forgive that. My in-laws and Haruna had been lying to me together. I never wanted to see any of them again.
I felt stupid for ever trusting my in-laws in the first place. I trusted them enough to leave my child with them—and that trust was completely shattered. What hurt the most was that even my husband, who should have been on my side, spoke as if he were defending his family instead. I truly couldn’t believe any of them anymore. I know Riku better than anyone. And the fact that they didn’t even stop to imagine what would happen if you gave games and anime to a child who isn’t going to school—that level of irresponsibility disgusted me.
