I’m Seina. My husband, Kippei, and I are raising our two elementary schoolers, Daigo and Ran. My sister Sana has always struggled with her health, but while she was cycling in and out of the hospital, her husband Rintaro cleaned out their bank account and abandoned her for another woman. My biggest worry right now is for my nieces, Aoi and Karin. With Sana being sick and unemployed, it’s practically impossible for her to provide for them. Distraught and desperate, Sana begged me to take the girls in and raise them myself. But I have a family of my own to think about, and I just didn’t know what to say.

I want to help my sister and my nieces after the hell Rintaro put them through. I wish I could just take them in, but reality isn’t that simple. The financial burden is the biggest hurdle—if we make a reckless move, we’ll all end up going under together. Plus, even if we could provide temporary relief, it wouldn’t solve the core issue. We need a real conversation with the whole family about how Sana and the girls are going to survive long-term. I’ve made up my mind, and now it’s time to have a serious talk with my sister.
