I am Ayano, and I live with my husband, Hiroshi, and our two kids (Kou, 4, and Mimi, 2). We used to see my in-laws pretty regularly. But everything changed when my sister-in-law, Kyoko, got a divorce. My in-laws and Kyoko started relying on my husband to be a “father figure” to my nephews, and he didn’t seem to mind at all. Why is everyone so ready to let her off the hook, yet so completely oblivious to the fact that my kids and I are the ones making all the sacrifices? Having reached my absolute breaking point, I finally let my in-laws have it. Afterward, my husband came to apologize… So, what now?

My husband has always absolutely loved kids. In a way, this whole mess only happened because he’s naturally such a caring guy. The next morning, he held our kids tight as soon as they woke up, apologizing over and over. He even promised that our next outing would be just for our family. Since he genuinely reflected on what he did, I decided to let it go for now.
It looks like my sister-in-law and in-laws were worried that the two of us might actually get a divorce. Fortunately, it didn’t come to that, so I’m hoping we can use this talk as a stepping stone to build a stronger relationship moving forward.
When it comes to my nephews, I don’t think my sister-in-law should have to carry that burden all on her own; her ex-husbands should be stepping up and figuring things out just as much. I’m sure she realizes that herself, so as an outsider, I chose not to meddle any further. I’ll just keep quietly rooting for my nephews from afar, wishing them nothing but happiness.
END…
