I’m Mariko (38). My husband, Yoshihiro (38), and I were supposed to watch a sporting event with his family and then head to a restaurant a short distance away… but my son Yuma and I couldn’t keep up with how fast they were walking, and we got left behind. My phone battery had died, and by the time I finally managed to get in touch with them, more than 30 minutes had passed since we lost sight of everyone. I was heartbroken and shocked, and I wanted to give my husband a piece of my mind, but back then, I was still trying to be the good daughter-in-law.

Up until that sporting event and restaurant incident, I wanted my in-laws to like me, and I wanted to be a good daughter-in-law.
But after seeing that not a single person in his family worried about Yuma and me when we got left behind, I completely lost any desire to be on their good side. Since then, I’ve kept turning down every single invitation to go out with them.
In a way, if I look at it positively, it was a valuable turning point that finally allowed me to end my “good daughter-in-law act.” Even so, my husband just never learns and keeps inviting me anyway, which honestly makes my blood boil.
