I’m Sakura, and I live with my husband and our college-student daughter, Mao. Due to a congenital condition, Mao is unable to have children. My husband and I waited until she was older before we told her. We believed she had accepted it. Eventually, Mao got a boyfriend—Tatsuki, who’s in his second year of working. Things were going smoothly, but when Mao shared her condition with him, he dumped her, saying, “Marriage is off the table.” Just as I was trying to cheer up a heartbroken Mao, Tatsuki reached out to her as if nothing had ever happened…?

When Mao told Tatsuki about her inability to have children, he made it crystal clear that marriage was off the table.
Because of that, both Mao and I assumed the two of them had broken up.
Yet, he laughed it off and said he simply “won’t marry her,” but they are “still dating.”
What on earth is he thinking? I honestly can’t wrap my head around how he can explicitly state “no marriage” while still treating her like his girlfriend.
Mao seems completely at a loss about what to do, too.
