I’m Ayumi. I live with my husband Kazuma and our three kids. Kazuma is the middle child of three — his older brother Kosuke and his younger sister Sanae. And I… cannot stand Kosuke and his wife. They are pushy, loud, entitled — the full set. I decided years ago that I would never get involved with them again, and I’ve kept my distance ever since.
Then one day, a friend offered to transfer us her reservation at a famous ryokan. So we invited Kazuma’s parents and planned a trip — seven of us in total. Just when everything was settled, my father-in-law suddenly said, “Oh, I already invited Kosuke’s family and Sanae too.” …Excuse me, what?
If my father-in-law wants to reminisce about the “good old days” of family vacations, that’s perfectly fine. But I don’t want him projecting that nostalgia onto our trip — the one we planned and invited them to. If he wants a big family vacation so badly, he can organize one himself anytime. Instead, he decided to tack his plan onto our trip without asking anyone. It was unbelievable.
And then Kosuke had the nerve to say things like, “Talk it out with Dad first,” and “Ask my wife nicely if you want to cancel.” If he simply declined like a normal person, everything would be solved instantly — yet he refuses. At that point, it honestly felt like they were doing it just to mess with us.
