I’m Tomoya. My wife, Miharu, and I have a six-month-old daughter, Chieri. When she was born, I made a vow to always be a “cool dad,” so I started going all out with my grooming and workouts. I’m talking a serious skincare routine, daily runs, and weekly soccer games. Plus, a monthly trip to the salon is a total must. If I do say so myself, I’ve managed to stay looking pretty sharp. But then, my own mother called me out and told me I had it all wrong…

Because I’m into self-improvement, I was working hard to be that “good-looking dad” for Chieri’s sake. But the truth is, my “me-time” was built entirely on Miharu’s sacrifices. There’s no way Chieri is going to love a father who makes her mother cry. My whole mindset was fundamentally flawed. It took my mom spelling it out for me to finally see it—I’ve been such an idiot. From now on, I want to make sure Miharu gets the rest she needs and the time to pamper herself, too. To keep the smiles on Miharu and Chieri’s faces, I’m going to give it my all to be a truly “cool dad”—one who’s defined by his character and how much he cares for his family.
