I (Rie) live with my husband (Tsuyoshi) and our two children (Sakura and Haruto). Tsuyoshi is very kind and I have never seen him get angry. However, things have not been going well between me and my mother-in-law since the beginning of our marriage. My in-laws’ house is about an hour’s drive away, and my father-in-law and mother-in-law live there alone. However, whenever I visit my husband’s parents’ house, my mother-in-law is unreasonably strict not only with me but also with the children. I felt that Tsuyoshi was desperately trying to connect our family with my in-laws.

I think it would be difficult for my mother-in-law, who has weak legs, to go about her daily life without someone’s support. Now that my father-in-law, who had supported my mother-in-law for so long, had passed away, wouldn’t it be up to Tsuyoshi, or even our family, to support her…? Naturally, my mother-in-law would probably ask to live with us.
But there was no way things would go well for me or the children living with my mother-in-law. I was filled with unbearable anxiety when I thought about what would happen next.
