I’m Ayumi, and I live with my husband Kazuma and our three kids. Kazuma is the middle child of three—he’s got an older brother and a younger sister. I’ve been avoiding his older brother, Kosuke, and his wife, Rie, for years because they’re both unbearably pushy.
When I decided to treat my in-laws to a stay at a famous traditional inn, my father-in-law went ahead and invited the rest of the siblings too. Kosuke couldn’t get a room at the same place and suddenly demanded that we “swap rooms” with him… and my in-laws just nodded along like that was normal. That was it for me—I finally snapped!
After hitting my limit, I told Kosuke every last thing I’d been holding in. He yelled at me over the phone, but honestly? I wasn’t scared at all. If the only way he knows how to deal with people is by yelling and trying to intimidate them, then he’s the sad one, not me.
I’m sure my father-in-law now fully realizes how bad things are between Kosuke and me. But whatever happens with the family from here on out, I don’t even care anymore. The whole bunch has been excusing Kosuke’s behavior with “that’s just how he is” for way too long, and Rie blindly obeys anything he says. Every single one of them needs a wake-up call.
