I’m Seira. I live with my husband Kotaro, our four-year-old daughter, and our two-year-old son. Our apartment is right on my in-laws’ property. My big issue, though, was that my mother-in-law kept using her spare key to come in whenever she wanted. Then one day, our whole family came down with a contagious bug. I could barely even sit up with my burning fever, yet I still had to take care of the kids. But the one who came to my rescue wasn’t my own mother… it was my mother-in-law.
Looking back, my mother-in-law had always come over to help whenever she saw I was completely overwhelmed. When I finally worked up the courage to make a request, she completely understood how I felt. I wish I had spoken up sooner, but the fact that I was able to be so open with her in the first place is all thanks to her.
Ever since then, unless it’s an emergency, she always sends a quick “Heading over now!” before coming by. The time may come when she needs to use that spare key again, but if it does, I know she’ll be using it to protect our family.
